Product Description
This dinosaur scene has been transformed into a heavy duty cardboard floor puzzle. It features detailed graphics and large, high quality pieces that are 20% thicker than other floor puzzles. The easy-to-clean surface keeps puzzles looking new, and the large size helps small hands learn. Contains 48 pieces Measures 24" x 36".I gave this puzzle to my granddaughter for her third birthday. She loves it! She received several puzzles, and this is her favorite. My daughter reports that it took her about 30 minutes to make the puzzle the first time she made it, and it takes her less time now. She makes it over and over again.
This is a great floor puzzle that keeps the little one in awe! The size is great and my 4 year old can put it together with a little help. Very sturdy.
We got this one when Jack was 3, he loves putting it together as much as he loves taking it apart..pieces fly everywhere and still looks new !! Great puzzle, beautiful colors !!
My 3 year old loves puzzles and dinosaurs, and he enjoys this puzzle. The colors are good, the pictures realistic, and it is durable (as I expect from Melissa and Doug products). My complaint is that there is no information about which dinosaurs are pictured. I am no expert, and my son keeps asking what their names are. We've been able to figure some out by looking through books, but it is work I don't think I should have to do. If it had this information (or if you don't care about this info), I would give it 5 stars. The Crocodile Creek dinosaur puzzle has a cartoonish look, but at least it includes the names and eliminates this hassle.
Their puzzles are awesome...the pieces go together well and they have a good finish on them and are very durable. My 3 and 5-year olds haven't been able to destroy them under constant use!
I do wish Melissa & Doug had a better policy for lost pieces though. It seems wasteful that you have to toss a puzzle after losing just one piece. I was told that pieces don't always fit 100% which is why they don't supply them, but kids wouldn't care - - they are so bummed they lost a piece to one of their puzzles!
My son, who got this present when he was 2 1/2, really loves it now, a year later. At first, it was a bit too tough for him, since he was used to the wooden puzzles with pegs on them, and then went to this traditional one. But he did like the images of dinosaurs as my husband or I put it together.
The pieces are cardboard but really big, about 3-4 inches long. He has become a puzzle master now with the help of this puzzle.
It's quite large. Do it on the floor, not the table. He loves the dinosaur images.
They also make one with a savanna image with lions, a huge elephant, giraffes, etc. He loves that one too.
The pieces of this puzzle is very thick and therefore will be able to withstand years of play. My 5 year old likes putting the puzzle together, but I wish they had either labeled the dinosaurs on the puzzle or perhaps had an picture outline of the puzzle with the names of the dinosaurs in each, that could have been put underneath the lid or something. It would have helped me to identify them too!
A great puzzle for preschoolers. My 34 month old loves this puzzle and will put it together on his own and then take it apart and put it away without any help. The big sturdy easy to clean pieces are great for his little hands to manipulate easily. The puzzle also has very nice graphics.
My son loves puzzles and loves dinosaurs, so what could be better than this dinosaur floor puzzle? He's four now and has had this one for at least 18-24 months, and it's still a favorite. The pieces are large and easy to handle, they stay together well, and they are typical Melissa & Doug good quality that doesn't bend or separate. The finished image is very cool, and my son will do and redo this puzzle several times each time he takes it out.
There is nothing wrong with the physical quality of this product. The issue is with its suitability for children's play and learning. One of the most difficult concepts for elementary school children to learn is that not all dinosaurs lived at the same time; that different families and species lived at one of three prehistoric time periods. This is result of the influence of the movie "Land Before Time" and other popular images showing scenes with Tyrannosaurus living at the same time as the sauropods (the "long necks" such as Apatosaurus) on impressionable preschoolers' minds. So children then need to "unlearn" their concepts of dinosaurs living at the same time and place from those popular images. So as a Pre-K teacher in a state-certified program, I am suggesting that parents not buy this for their children. I am still searching for a dinosaurs floor puzzle that has the dinosaurs grouped into the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous Periods of the Mesozoic Era. It is not developmentally appropriate to teach young children false information, just facts that are simple enough for them to comprehend.
