LeapFrog Clickstart My First Computer

Product Description

leapfrog's ClickStart My First Computer is the first preschool learning system featuring a desktop experience that looks and works like a grownup PC. The ClickStart platform turns any TV into a child's first computer, simultaneously introducing core preschool skills and basic computer functionality. A friendly green puppy named Scout accompanies little ones on their learning journeys, appearing on the wireless keyboard with automatic shut-off as well as in onscreen games and activities.

Rich with content, ClickStart My First Computer offers exciting games as well as engaging software applications that work together to help kids earn treats for their friend Scout. Includes wireless keyboard with automatic shut-off, cartridge based console, child-sized mouse and right or left hand adjustable mouse pad. Requires 4 "AA" batteries and 4 "C" batteries (not included). Measures 16" x 8".

I love Leapfrog toys and have several for my daughter, but this was a huge disappointment for us. She would love to play it but the mouse is impossible for her to use and just doesn't work well at all. What should have been a great learning toy is nothing but frustration for us all.

I bought this for my 2 1/2 year old son because he loves to play in my computer, and this looked appropiate and fun. He was immidiately hooked up. The games are engaging and fun. It comes with 4 preloaded games, which are very educational. My son has been playing with it for two months now, and still loves it. He has already learned colors, shapes, numbers from 1-10, and his ABC's! It really is educational. I purchased the Dora Explorer game which also teaches to count in Spanish. I love this toy. I don't usually write reviews, but this toy really deserves it.

My three year old loves playing with this computer and has learned a great deal from playing with it too (phonics, basic spelling and word recognition, computer typing and mousing skills). And even though the mouse is very difficult to use (for me), she has managed to adapt to its very poor design and quality and make it work. At three years old she needs to be on level 2 already and my 1 1/2 year old likes using it too, so I am not sure how long it will last as an educational toy but younger kids can appreciate it too. If you don't want the batteries to run out put the toy away when not in use. Though it doesn't have an off switch, the mouse goes to sleep if you don't move it for a while.

Our kids got the Clickstart for Christmas. It was easy for them to use (3.5-year-old twins and 7-year-old daughter), and fun. It helped them learn their colors and numbers. They had fun with it for two months...until the mouse stopped working. Life was crazy so it took me a month to call Clickstart Customer Service. After a 20-minute wait and a long conversation, they told me they'd replace the unit...until they realized it had been longer than 3 months since we'd received it. The warranty is only THREE months! On an electronic toy for children--it's ridiculous!

Don't waste your money: This toy is NOT durable, and LeapFrog has LOUSY customer service! Thankfully Amazon is refunding all but 10% of purchase price. Better than nothing.

We purchased this as a Christmas gift for our almost three year old - and he was very excited!! Along with it, we purchased the Bob the Builder and Thomas cartridges. It was very easy set up - I would strongly recommend purchasing the adapter to save yourself from continuing to purchase size C Batteries. Although each cartridge offers only three to four games, there are different levels and it is amazing how much keyboarding and basic screen navigation he's learned already. The games all reinforce letter and number recognition, colors, shapes, following directions. He plays these games frequently - recently we also purchased the Finding Nemo and Go Diego games.

This is the second try for this click start toy. I bought one for Christmas 08 for my 4 year old granddaughter and we sent it back as the mouse ate batteries! So I decided to give it one more try. After sending it back I started reading other reviews and lots of people have had the same trouble that we did. Fortunately, the second try is a keeper. My granddaugher loves her click start and we will definitely be keeping this one.

I was really looking forward to the arrival of this toy after reading all the positive reviews but, sorry to say, it doesn't meet my expectations. The key board and mouse pad seem to have a mind of their own. I understand the mouse is made for little hands but even my 3 yr old has a hard time pointing and clicking. It could be that this particular keyboard and mouse are defective since it appears like not too many people have experienced this. [...]. The learning material is so-so, it didn't meet my expectations but my 3 yr old seems to enjoy it (too bad the mouse won't cooperate).

i got this for my 3 1/2 yr old little boy for christmas. he loves it so much i can barely get him off it. watch out...it's addicting!! but they also learn a lot of neat skills. the games are VERY educational. it's amazng how good a small child can get with the mouse and hand-eye coordination. all the games are fun. my son laughs so much at the little green puppy in the game, too. it's challenging enough that sometimes he needs help especially when his game is on the 2nd level. last week i went on vacation and at the last second i took the keypad & base along because "you never know".....and it turned out to be a lifesaver on the trip's rainy days, and times when i just wanted some quiet time to myself at the resort. it's so easy to just plug the base into the TV and an outlet...and then set the keyboard across the room from it. my friend and her 2 1/2 yr old daughter were with us on vacation and her little one wanted one so bad..and they are now going out to get one. this was the one "special toy" my son did not have to share on his trip. it's sooo special to him, noone can touch it -except mommy.

it's also durable and very user friendly. i thought i'd have to explain most things to my son, and he just figured everything out on his own because the games give voiced directions as to what to do next, along with pictures of what part of the keypad to use. the keypad is sooo easy for kids to read. anyway, it's awesome. i would highly highly recommend it! i hope you get one!

My 3 year old has some delays which affect his dexterity. This is by far the best toy he has. He not only loves it, but it is doing wonders for his coordination. I LOVE this toy.

This computer has great value in teaching preschoolers the essential keyboarding and mouse skills in a safe way. You don't have to worry about your kids clicking all around on your own computer and damaging it in the process.

There is one major design flaw in my opinion though: There is no on/off switch. And although the computer does "sleep" after some time, the mouse and keyboard are still using batteries, those red lights are always on. And while I definitely recommend buying the optional plug, you still need a set of AA batteries for the keyboard. I learned after going through two sets of batteries in about one week, that I should remove the batteries and insert them again each time we want to use it again. Not too convenient considering you have to unscrew the
battery cover all the while your impatient preschooler is waiting.
That said it is a great toy.

LeapFrog ClickStart My First Computer Adapter

Product Description

Power up the learning! Simply plug the adapter into your ClickStart My First Computer Console and AC wall outlet, and get plugged into educational fun.

Customer Buzz
After reading the reviews I thought the adapter was necessary.

If you like spending your money you can use batteries, but it's really worth it to buy the adapter, it will pay for itself & you don't have the trouble of installing batteries every couple weeks.

Customer Buzz
I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my three year old. My older son did just fine learning on an ordinary computer. I thought this would be even better. It is useless. Especially the mouse. I could not use the mouse as an adult. No way is this a meaningful training tool for a kid. Totally frustrating experience for my son.

Customer Buzz
Don't use the product without the ac adaptor. You will have to replace batteries too often.

Customer Buzz
Basically the adapter proved useless. The computer flashed a low battery warning on screen every 3 seconds when it was running from this adapter. I ended up using a universal adapter, purchased for $[...] running at 5V instead.

Customer Buzz
My step grandson was given this a year ago. His mother isn't computer literite and thus far the child only played with the accessories. It never
got hooked up or used. Be sure the parent is able to do all the hook up connections or it won't help the child at all, unless you go to his house and do it yourself. By the time we found out, parts were missing.
Too bad since this would have really been a great educational start for him.

Customer Buzz
We ordered the Leap Frog ClickStart My First Computer for both our 3 year old grandson and grandaughter, and on the recommendation of others we got the adapter to go with them. I'm so glad we did. Now their parents don't have to worry about constantly replacing batteries. I might add that the computers have been a tremendous success. The children play with them daily. Our only complaint with that product is that the mouse pad (or paw, in this case) is too small and frustrates the children sometimes. But they are learing to master it.

Customer Buzz
This plugs in to the ClickStart so that you don't have to run it with batteries. Amazon wouldn't leave me alone about reviewing it, so here it is. It works great, didn't need directions or anything. The darn thing just plugs in to the ClickStart on the one end with the single connection and in to the wall outlet - you know...the electrical socket that has the three holes in it? - from the other end. Amazing! Couldn't live without it!

Customer Buzz
I bought this for a christmas present for my grandson's leap frog click start computer. It plugs into the back of the game and he has hours of fun. We were smart enough to think of this when purchasing the ClickStart and am so glad we did. I recommend this to eleviate all the problems of repacing batteries.

Customer Buzz
We purchased this toy for our 3-year-old granddaughter. It took her a couple of tries before she began to understand that what she saw on the TV screen could be changed by what she did on the keyboard and with the mouse. She used the keyboard interaction better than with the mouse, initially, however, I expect that in the coming days she will learn to use the mouse quite well. I was amazed that she picked it up as fast as she did. The toy held her attention longer than most of the toys she usually plays with. I think it will be durable, as it will have to be with her younger sister around to "play" with it as well.

Customer Buzz
My 3 year old son took to this computer like a duck to water. He absolutely loved it and learned to click within the day. Get the adapter because the console eats batteries. The keyboard does too, but not as bad.
