 "Great letter review!" 2009-04-14
By Rhonda Mac (Florida right now)
Found the letterpillar a fine afternoon rainy day breath of fresh air for my girls. Like that the letterpillar gets ill if it eats numbers. :)

 "It's educational" 2009-03-28
By Pamela Watkins (memphis)
We bought cartridge for our 3 year old. We were going on a airplane trip and thought it would keep his attention. He used it for only 5 minutes and wanted the creature creation cartridge. He may get more into this one when he gets older.

"Great letter teacher, phonics, etc. lots of fun" 2007-05-14
By Rick Quick (North East)
My grand daughter loves this and Running on Zero, one for letter skills, the other for math. Both are fun, and teach the child. They challenge your child to try harder, for a better score, even though there's no grading involved (the way it should be)

"Letterpillar - doesn't stack up to other Leapster games" 2006-12-10
By C. Adkins (Ohio)
While my 3 yr old and 5 yr old play this game some, it doesn't compare to the other cartridges we own. There is only one game on the cartridge. It is simple, and I'm not convinced it has much educational value, as do most of the other Leapster games we have. I recommend you buy the Draw & Write or the Letter Factory. My children fight / "take turns" over those two games and they are educational.

 "Great Beginner Game" 2006-11-22
By K. S. (IN United States)
My son received the Leapster system for his 4th birthday as a gift. It comes with this game. While this game isn't the most challenging, my son enjoys it. I am not sure at what level the previous reviewers children are at, but my son doing very well at school. Maybe they are academically beyond him. He knows all of his letters, their sounds, and can read three letter words. He can also write out all of the letters in the alphabet, uppper and lower. So while this game isn't extremely challenging, he still found it fun. I haven't found controlling the letterpillar to be difficult at all, as a previous reviewer said. The arrow buttons on the control respond fine when controlling the letterpillar. I think this game was great as a "free" game with the system, because it allowed him to get used to using the controller. And my son isn't electronically deprived. He uses our personal computer all of the time to play games. He also has a V-Smile with other games. We wanted this as a portable gaming system. Again, it was a good first, free game. I have nothing bad to say about it considering I didn't have to pay for it.

It's an ok game. I find it difficult to move around the game.
and I'm 30+ years old. I was showing my boy how to use it.
But I myself had a hardtime. But Its a good game

Customer Buzz
This is the best game ever! (says my 7 year old) He really likes it and I find the music to be pleasant and not annoying like some other electronic games.

Customer Buzz
I thought the game seemed dull, but my son likes it - so my opinion is meaningless.

Kids are required to go through a maze and spell words while avoiding obstacles. Level one is 3 letter words, higher levels have larger words. Sometimes I have a hard time understanding what word the game is saying to spell but I guess it is just me because my son doesn't complain about it.

It isn't his favorite game (he has 12 leapster games total) I would say this is his 4th or 5th favorite game)

This was a Christmas present for my 7 year old Granddaughter. She really loves it and plays with it all the time. She really loves her leapster.

Customer Buzz
Bought this game for my 5year old son for Christmas. He has had his leapster for a year now and we are always looking for new, fun, educational games to buy him. He absolutely LOVES this game! He giggles at all of the funny little noises and gets really excited to spell every word!

Fast shipping, product exactly as described. Thanks for a good experience.

I gave this 5 stars because overall I think this is a great game. It operates like the video arcade game pac-man did. The difference is, you choose the level you want to start and the Leapster then gives you a word to spell according to that level. Then you have to correctly go through the maze and find the letters in order. So for example, if you picked level 1, you may have a simple word like tag to find. Once the game has started, you have to go through the maze and find the T first, without bumping into another letter and so on and so forth. You can get bonus points by chasing mice after you correctly get each letter among many other things.

My son only chose to stay on level 2 so far today, so I am sure there are other things to do with this cartridge. One of the things I liked the most was that you had to spell the words out of "thin air". There werer no hints or anything to copy. It was learning through trial and error. I was originally worried about my son being bored becuase he is already a reader (5.5 yrs old), but it really was fun for him to figure out words he only knew in a "kid writing" sort of way. Having the Pac-Man arcade approach kept him interested.

I don't know what the price will be after it is back in stock, but we got it as buy one, get one and it was also reduced to 17.99 each. So I only paid 24.00 total with the shipping and tax. I think the original/non-sale price was really high though? If you have a reading kindergartener or 1st grader plus, they will like it. If your child can't read yet, this is too advanced and not worth spending the money yet.

I got this for my 7 year old 2nd grader as a fun way to practice math facts (she hates flash cards). She and her 9 year old 4th grade sister agree that it's fun, but it moves too slowly to really be engaging for very long. There is only one activity on it, and it is very much like another title "Number Raiders" that they have. They don't play with either very much, and when they do they don't play for very long (20 minutes, maybe?). So in the end not very many math facts get learned or practiced, although as a game it's good for a bit of fun occasionally. Might be good on a trip or a rainy day to occupy some time.

Our kids have lots of the leapster games and they love playing them. I like educational toys that apply to what they are learning in school. This game makes math fun!

I purchased this game for my then 4.5yo and 6 yo last December. Both find it easy to operate but the math still makes them think.

This is a birthday present for my grandson. It arrived quickly and I wrapped it and sent it on to Japan. Boy grandsons love the software and it is small enough to send economically.
