Little Mommy Gotta Go Doll

Young children love to play at being "grown-up" -- in fact, it's a crucial part of their development. With the Fisher-Price Little Mommy Gotta Go Doll, their role playing is taken to a whole new level. Designed for girls ages three and up, the Gotta Go Doll moves, talks, asks for help -- and comes with her own "bathroom," where your child can play "mommy" by helping her use the toilet, brush her teeth, and more.

What We Think

Fun Factor:

Durability:

(what this means)

The Good: Potty-training doll uses her own potty with no real water and no mess.

The Bad: Some of the doll's phrases are not always easy to understand.

In a Nutshell: Doll with realistic sounds and interactive phrases make exciting role-playing fun for little girls.

Ages: 8 and older
Requires: 6 AAA Batteries
Interactive Doll Makes Roll-Playing More Fun
The adorable toddler doll comes dressed in a cute T-shirt and a pair of "big girl" panties. She has positionable arms and legs, bright friendly eyes, and curly pigtails and bangs that can be combed with the included brush. The doll comes with her own bathroom accessories: a toilet, sink, and two bathroom shelves that hold the included toothbrush, toothpaste tube, hairbrush, cup, soap dispenser, and towel.

The doll can be extracted relatively easily from the box, but it takes an adult with wire cutters or a pair of tough scissors to do it. Once she and her bathroom accessories are out, you'll need to install fresh batteries: the doll takes 3 AA batteries, as does the bathroom unit.

Press the button on her tummy to get the doll started. She will turn her head from side to side, move her arms up and down, and begin "talking." She has a set of randomized phrases, including, "I'm a big girl!" "Hi, Mommy!" and "Mommy, I love you." And she'll ask your child for help. For example, she'll ask for a drink of water, and when you hold the cup to her mouth, and she'll make drinking sounds. Likewise, she'll say "Time to brush my teeth!" If you "brush" her teeth with her toothbrush, she will make realistic tooth-brushing and gargling sounds.

Using the Potty
The Gotta Go Doll's central feature, of course, is using the potty. Sit the doll on the toilet, and it will sound like she is "going" in the toilet -- and she will talk about the process, too, humming a tune before she "goes," and saying "I really have to go!" or singing "Pee pee in the potty!" and other phrases that will be funny and delightful to a young child.

In the meantime, when the doll is positioned on the toilet, the "water" in the toilet disappears, with the expected "potty waste" appearing in its place. Your child can then flush the toilet. The "water" will reappear, while the toilet makes a very realistic flushing sound. Wash the doll's hands at the sink -- turn the right faucet to hear realistic running-water sounds.

Once the fun is finished, your child can simply lay the doll on her back. She'll yawn, say she is "sleepy," and the doll will enter a sleep mode. Move the doll to "wake" her up. She makes a yawning sound and is ready for play again.

Realistic Play with No Mess!
The realistic sounds and randomized, interactive phrases from the doll make a delightful stimulation for role playing. And we personally were relieved to find that, unlike other "pee pee" dolls, this one doesn't require real water -- and real mess -- to provide realistic, interactive fun.

However, we did find it a little bit difficult to understand some of the doll's phrases -- it took a couple of listens to figure out what she was saying. And our particular doll, unfortunately, makes a tooth-brushing sound immediately after her water-drinking sound, whether you're brushing her teeth or not. But these two minor inconveniences won't detract from a child's enjoyment in taking good care of this little doll.

"Love the frustration free packaging" 2009-10-19
By J. Baker (South Carolina)
I bought this for my four year old twins for Christmas last year. My girls don't play with girly toys, so when one of them asked for this doll, I was really excited and didn't hesitate to buy it. Unfortunately, she could care less about the doll. She just wanted the potty to play with her animal toys with. Anyway, the doll and accessories all worked great. I love the frustration free packaging. It's much, much easier to get the toys out. The fact that it's a lot cheaper than buying the doll packaged normally is a big plus. I would recommend it to kids that like dolls a bit more than my kids do.

"pee pee in the potty, gotta wash my hands" 2009-08-05
By I Love Sandals (La Habra, CA)
My Granddaughter loves this little doll, what I think is best is the catchy little song. I like how it re-enforces hand washing. I bought this doll with Potty Power DVD and recommend both - I further recommend that the company create a boy version of this toy. One thing, we didn't realize there was a way to have the doll sing other things, but that may have been because we didn't read the box ?

"just like most toys, got old after a couple of days" 2009-06-23
By NJ Mechanicc (Medford, NJ)
This did not help my daughter to learn to potty train at all and she pretty much got bored of it after 2 days and rarely ever touches it. Isn't this like all toys. Why do we spend so much on the "gotta have it" toys when this is always the outcome.

Not being able to find this in stores, I was told the Little Leaps system had been discontinued. Thank goodness I easily found it here! Inexpensive, brand new, and arrived 3 days after ordering! My son begs to play this game, and we love that he's learning manners in a way that is so much fun!

"Fun game and teaches great skills" 2008-08-13
By Bargain Shopper (MD)
We bought this for Christmas in 07 when my son was 2 1/2. He didn't play with it much, but now at 3 years old, he loves this game. He loves the whole Thomas family and this game is his favorite. The manners they teach are good, and my son likes to play along with the characters is acting out the manners or emotions. As for the durability of the disk, not so good. We are on our second disk now. Even with very little handling by my sons, the disk is scratched just enough to not work for some of the games. It shuts off when trying top play. I wish they could find a way to make them more durable for a product for kids and used by kids. I do put the disk in for him, but occasionally he will get a hold of it and I guess it gets scratched easily.

 "expensive" 2008-07-25
By Lisa F. Kroening (hilton head, sc)
I ordered this toy, and couldn't tell that you needed to purchase an expensive piece of other equipment to use it, and i have purchased a LOT of leap frog items and it's always clear what equipment it works on. so now I have had to spend another $40.00 on a piece of equipment that doesn't have many games with it, and he will outgrow in one year. I would have been better off buying something else.

 "My daughter loves it!" 2009-08-21
By Jenni L. (orange county, ca)
We bought this scooter for our daughter's 2nd birthday. She absolutely loves it and has a great time chasing after her big brother on it. The only thing I do not like about it is that there is no turning radius (the reason I gave it 4 stars). It is really only good for riding up and down the sidewalk - my daughter has to get off of it and turn it around herself to get it to go another direction. She doesn't seem terribly bothered by it at this point but I am sure she will at some point. Other than that, I think it is a great product and would highly recommend it.

"Not great for older kids." 2009-07-24

We bought this for our 4 year old last Christmas. She loves to goof off on it around the house. But will not ride it the full block, much less to the park. It does not roll or turn as easily as she would like. (By contrast, she flies on her bike.)

Probably great for 2 or 3 year old beginners. Decent stability in that regard. But we're not impressed for the 4 to 5 year old set.

"Big fun for littel girls" 2009-07-16
By A. Connor (Raleigh, NC)
My daughter was ecstatic to receive this for Christmas and I couldn't be more pleased with it's performance. The wide base maked it very easy for toddlers to handle and they can even place both feet on when they tire of kicking-off. It is durable, has been able to withstand rough treatment and continues to provide a great time. My daughter was about 3 years, 4 months when we got it and managed quite well.

The wheels are plastic, the turning radios is not all that, my daughter has to pick it up and to make a sharp turn. The board is nice a large but it bends when she is on it. I wondered why it was only $30. I do like the two wheels in front.

"Love this toy - Great Price - Great Toy" 2009-04-18
By Ultimate Reviewer (Toyland USA)
I read reviews before ordering from Amazon. Saw people complaing about only getting one pony for the price. Personally I think it is a great price. The bus is awesome looking. And one pony. We have others from other sets that we now use too but when we first got it, we only had the one pony. Even still my 5 year old loved it. My 2 year old now wants to play with it too although she is too young for it. But how can you go wrong with a cool looking MLP bus like this.

Title says it all. Great toy. My 6 year old loves it and plays with it often. Huge improvement over the old chunky My Little Pony stuff. My only complaint is that only one pony was included with this fairly expensive toy. I would have thought at least 2 would have come with it.

"Fun, but one bad part" 2009-06-02
By F. Delboy (Chestertown, MD)
I bought this scooter for my 3 year old daughter for her birthday, after reading many reviews on this one and others. This Radio Flyer seemed to be the best. When she first got it,it was great and she loved it. Her brother, 4 years old, loved it too (many fights:). However, a month later, they don't ride it as much, or very little. The red cap that covers a screw on the rear wheel is in the way, or sticks out too far and they hit it with their ankle when they push off (both sides are the same). So bad, that they both had a bruise on their ankle. I have been trying to figure out how I can either change their style of riding or get rid of one of the red caps. Haven't figured out what to do yet. I think it is very well made and sturdy. Steering and turning is easy. Good exercise! We did have it in the house when she first got it. They love the little bell and streamers. Except for the caps, I have been happy with this purchase.

"SO glad I bought my 4 year old this scooter!" 2009-05-08
By LH (Eastern seaboard)
My little one wanted a scooter so I shopped around and saw that many of the ones around are kind of flimsy.

I saw this one and have bought Radio Flyer's products in the past, so I thought I'd try it. It also got very good reviews here and on ToysRUs.

It is excellent. There is some assembly required, nothing major, but it is a sturdy, safe, fantastic scooter. The wheels move beautifully, but not as fast as a Razor.

She loves it and plays with it every single day since she got it.

"Back wheels leave huge bruises" 2009-05-05
By ch_everyounce (Santa Monica, CA United States)
My three year old loves scooters and is getting pretty good at riding one. The only problems with this scooter, which is well made and durable, are that it's too short for kids over 3 years (deck length, not height), and the back wheel configuration means that if they go outside and try to ride more than just around the living room, they will get a huge egg on their ankle from pushing the scooter then trying to bring their foot onto the deck.

Other reviews mention the scooter being too short, but I thought they meant height, and since my child is smaller than average, I thought it wouldn't be a problem. What the reviewers have correctly identified is a deck that is way too short for children over 3.

In addition to not having enough room on the board part of the scooter, my child keeps knocking his foot and ankle into the widely placed back wheels. He has average motor skills, but we have to get him a new scooter, after just one month, because he's black and blue from bashing into the back wheels on rides around the neighborhood. he doesn't have this problem in the house, because he doesn't get enough successive strides to get going in a rhythm inside. Based on trials with other kids' scooters at the playground, we're going to get a Kick rather than a Razor or another Radio Flyer.

The price is right on this scooter, if you can deal with the tears and the huge purple ankle welts in the bathtub...

 "radio flyer scooter" 2009-03-29
By Sally Snell
I thought this scooter would be ideal for my five year old granddaughter but unfortunately she has hit her ankle on the rear wheel bolt several times which makes her reluctant to use it. Maybe the designers could look at recessing the bolt so that this does not happen. Otherwise, it is well built but this is a major issue.
