 "Love it!" 2009-07-21
By ChriSpenceRachel
This has been a great introduction to turn taking games. It is very simple and takes only a few minutes to complete a game, but that fits my 3 year old and 2 year old perfectly. The design in fantastic, it keeps all the pieces together perfectly. My daughter could play this when she was as little as 18 months old and mostly understood what was going on. And if you are creative you can extend the educational value beyond shapes and colors to addition/subtraction, greater than/less than, etc. as your children gain new skills. Overall, a great purchase!

 "Good for small children" 2009-04-09

I have 2 preschoolers, and they get a kick out of this game....There isn't a whole lot of educational value in it; only in that it teaches kids the concept of taking turns. But it's fun for family time, and it's one that the kids can play themselves without an adult having to play (which can be kind of nice sometimes).

 "Hasbro Candyland Castle Game" 2009-03-30

Got it for my grandson's second birthday. Although it says it's for 3+, a two-year old can play it easily. I had to help him match the first couple of shapes and colors, then he was going to town on it himself. What he has to learn now is how to take turns with others in order to make it a game.

"perfect for a very active and impatient 2 yr. old boy" 2009-03-11
By Tina C. (St. Louis, MO USA)
This game is durable and easy to understand for little ones. I have a four year old girl, and a two year old boy, I also watch a 3 year old girl and a 1 year old. This game interests all of them especially my 2 yr old boy. Most games are either two complicated are two easy to break for him. He loves this game and asks to play it every day.

I keep all the pieces and the game boards in a gallon size freezer bag and put in under the castle which I keep with all the other games.

I got it on sale right before christmas for around $6.00. But I would gladly pay much more for it now that I know what a great game it is. It is really helping him with some of his colors and shapes and just playing encourages him to use his words. He doesnt talk alot and this game helps him want to communicate more! Would be too easy for over three or even for some smart 3 year olds if they didnt have someone younger to play with.

"Perfect for 2 year old" 2009-03-08

We recently bought this game for our 25-month-old son. This is the perfect first game for a young toddler as the concepts are simple enough for a 2-year-old to grasp, and it moves quickly while teaching them about taking turns, etc. I would not recommend this game for children aged 3 or older. It's too simple and they will tire of it easily. If you're looking for a great first game, I would highly recommend it.

Candy Land - Milton Bradley Board Games

Product Description

This is the classic "child's first game", and preschoolers will love it. Children draw colored cards, and move their plastic gingerbread playing tokens to the next square of the same color. Passing the peppermint forest and the ice cream sea on the way, the first one to reach the candy castle wins. No need to read to play this game.2 to 4 players can play this game. This board game includes a game board, four plastic playing pieces, 64 cards, "Legend of the Lost candy Castle", and instructions in English and Spanish.

This game was something I was anxious for my little cousin to experience since I had such fond memories of playing it as a child. When it was purchased however I was extremely shocked and disappointed by the changes. The gingerbread men had wider bottoms that overlap the board pieces, and the graphics were horrible. My favorite characters like Jolly and Grandma Nut were completely unrecognizable, and Plumpy was nowhere to be found. Plus there was a beaver, where'd he come from? My cousin enjoyed the game but I felt bummed. The nostalgia is just not there with this version. Why are they ruining all the great games with their ugly changes? Maybe it's just me and I focus too much on the looks of things, but the new version just didn't cut it for me.

I suggest buying the retro version from Wal-Mart or an old game board online. My cousin enjoys the older version so much that we rarely use the newer designed board.

This was a game for my granddaughter she loves it and plays it a lot

Customer Buzz
This is a fun game for kids. I grew up playing this, and now my 4 year old loves it. As far as educational value, the children learn colors, sequence, how to take turns, and consequence.

Customer Buzz
I have fond memories of playing this game as a child, but I don't know why. Have you played it recently with your own kids? You are NEVER going to get to the end. Even the kids can't hang in there on their never ending journey to Candy Land. They grow tired of it after reaching the candycanes. By the time you get to the last stretch of road and your hopes are high, you will inevitably pull a licorice card and be sent back towards the beginning. It never fails.

The pros of Candy Land are:
A) If your kid is able to hang in there, he/she would be reviewing their colors and counting
B) Reaching Candy Land is JOYOUS because the misery has finally ended
C) It teaches patience. Be patient, be patient, be patient, and you may eventually find your little plastic person standing in Candy Land.

Though I don't like the new style of candy land, mainly because I don't like change, the kids love it. Our 4yo has been able to learn his colors from it and it helps with counting as well. It may be a little long for a 4yo though but if you help them along they will do fun. Of course all that candy really keeps them mesmerized.

The little girl that I purchased this game for opened it at our family Christmas party last night, she was thrilled. She has two sisters and I know they will spend many hours of their Christmas hoilday enjoying this game. I played Candy Land as a child . My four children loved playing Candy Land as children. I know that Abby and her sisters will love it too. Children learn to share, to count, to follow directions while playing this game. The game moves along and can be completed in 15 or so minutes so the young children can stay focused on the game to the end.It as great game.

I played this game as a child and with my own children and now I am playing it with my grandson. While some of the graphics have changed slightly it is still the game I remember. My Grandson enjoys it just as much as my sons did and we all have great fun together. In addtion it helps to teach them sharing and waiting in turn. I think the classic games of childhood are great ways of bringing the past into the present.
