This thing looked fantastic on paper, but in reality the toy is very poorly made, with ill-fitting parts, next to impossible to play for my 5 year old (it requires adult strength to force (and I mean, FORCE) pieces together or apart, so much for kids fun)
My 5.5 year-old son received this as a gift for Christmas more than three months ago and has, literally, played with it every day since. He builds the vehicles in the directions and he makes up vehicles of his own. I've rarely seen a building toy engage him this completely for this long. Great toy!
This is fabulous in so many ways! It is very educational, it is durable, it is fun, it is transformable in many forms/uses of play. My 3 yr old absolutely loves his shuttle. There was another one he wanted for Christmas, but I wasn't about to get it - this was less expensive and you get SO much more for your money! My son is now very interested in space, telescopes, and astronauts in general. He also loves the alien & UFO that comes with it as well. :)
I BOUGHT THIS AS A GIFT FOR MY 5 YEAR-OLD NEPHEW WHO IS WAY TOO INTELLIGENT FOR HIS AGE AND EASILY BORED. HE WENT MONKEY-POOP OVER IT, AND IT'S STILL HIS FAVORITE EVEN A MONTH LATER. AS IF THAT ISNT ENOUGH, HIS FATHER CANT GET ENOUGH OF IT EITHER...OR HIS GRANDFATHER! GREAT TOY AND HIGHLY RECOMMENDED...GOOD VALUE TOO!
I bought this for my son for Christmas -- he was 3 at the time, turning 4 a couple weeks later. It's really probably better for a little bit older child, but he still has had a lot of fun with it.
My only complaints are that some parts are harder to attach/detach than others, leading him (and me!) to wonder if they aren't supposed to detach or if they're just difficult. That, and the directions only show you how to make one rig. The box shows other pictures, but some are not quite so cut and dry. I can figure it out for him, but he may have some difficulty by himself.
The main thing I can say is to **check the prices carefully** before purchasing from Amazon. At the time I write this the list price is $49.95 on Amazon.com. Here in SC, Target & Toys R Us had it for $39.95, and I bought it at WalMart for $21.95.
I may look for a little DVD on the space shuttle to let him have a better idea of what it does etc, to give him a jump on the imagination process. So many toys come with free, short DVDs these days that I'm almost surprised when one doesn't! All in all, though, a good toy, but probably best for 5 or 6 and up.
My 5 year old loves building things. The space shuttle is so versatile he will play with it for hours. He also interchanges some of it's parts with other Megarig sets making all kinds of cool vehicles.
Bought this for my 5 year old and he absolutely loves it. He rearranges the ships and creates new things. It has kept him busy for hours on end. Good choice for my family

I bought this for my grandson's birthday. It was a hit from the time everyone helped him take the toy out of the box. All the kids loved the Space Shuttle. According to their reviews, this will be a favorite for a long time. It's too soon to know if the toy will stand up to some pretty hard use. I was concerned about the number of pieces to this set but mom and grandson didn't seem a bit concerned. It was fun to watch how excited all the children got over this gift. It was well worth the price. Everyone seems thrilled with it. I know I am.
