"Our 6 month old loves these" 2009-10-19
By CoEx Capt (Houston, TX USA)
These wooden blocks are beautiful and well made. Our almost 6 month old daughter can pick them up with one hand. The wood and craftsmanship is excellent with smooth edges and corners; made in the northern United States with this regions' wood. A classic toy.

 "Lots of fun!" 2009-09-22
By The Real Deal (Atlanta, GA)
I was looking for wooden blocks that were decently sized for my daughter. So many on the market are so small and after a while would be overlooked as a "baby toy" as the child grew. These were just perfect! Between the brilliant colors, nontoxic ink, durability, animals, alphabet, math signs and size - I knew this would be the perfect set for my daughter to grow up with! They're great for teaching eye hand coordination, taking turns, interactive play with others, building up and breaking down - this is definitely the block set to get with so many learning potentials to explore! I am very happy with this purchase!

 "Fun Blocks" 2009-06-29
By D James (Okinawa, Japan)
I originally was looking for STACKING blocks, so when I received these in the mail I was bummed at first. My son on the other hand was thrilled! He LOVES these blocks. I can still stack them and he loves to push them over! Not only that but he thews on them constantly. Not one has splintered yet. The corners aren't sharp (a positive), They're small enough for him to grab (@ 6 months of age)... another positive... and they are safe for him to put in his mouth. All in all, not what I was looking for, but turned out to be a great buy!

 "Beautiful Blocks!" 2009-06-09
By H. Whitmore (Holland, MI)
These blocks are beautiful, durable and easy to use. They make all our other alphabet blocks look pale in comparison. They have a letter, number sign and an animal on each block, which makes them very educational. My baby and toddler love them and are more attracted to them than the other blocks we have. I also love the blocks and have used them on occasion to decorate, spelling words around the house. The embossing on them is lovely.

 "Excellent Blocks" 2009-06-03
By John Villalpando
We love these blocks. Our daughter started to play with these blocks at the age of four months. She would sit in her peapod and knock them over or just gum them. Later she started to move them from hand to hand. Now she loves to sit and knock them over. They are also motivating her to crawl, because she wants to knock them over so badly. They look brand new, even after the constant chewing, stacking, and knocking down. We have since purchase these blocks for our friends and niece. We highly recommend them.

"Not for 5 yr. old boy who's just not that into the alphabet" 2009-02-07
By K. Shotwell (Wash, DC)
This product represents a mom's failed attempt to improve her 5 yr. old son's interest in his developing literacy skills. He pays it no attention. I hope in a year or so he'll find some use for it. Wishful thinking on my part.

"Quality stamps with educational value" 2009-01-12
By S. Wong
The stamps are good quality, easy to hold and comes in a sturdy storage box (no lid). The stamped letters are clear and the font is easy to read. Toddlers enjoy stamping, pre-schoolers enjoy creating letters and words and the older kids cards, etc. Kids can also trace stamped letters adding to its educational value. The only drawback is it can be difficult to get the stamps out of the box so it really challenges those fine motor skills.

"Too Much Confusion for a Toddler" 2009-08-26
By M. Janosi (New York)
Melissa and Doug have produced some wonderful, educational, age-appropriate developmental toys for toddlers and pre-schollers. This is NOT one of them. Older children will understand and coordintate the letters with the odd pictures inside, but will be bored within a few minutes of play. Younger children will not grasp the matching concepts used for letter/piece placement. Several of the letter pieces are interchangable, making mistakes very easy and not helping with the learning process. My overall impression of this educational product is that flashy colors and imaginative picture matches for the entire alphabet makes it pretty, but useless for anything other than a dust collector. I have taken it away from my toddler and do not plan on using it again.

 "Gets the Job Done" 2009-04-13
By JudiAU (Los Angeles)
I bought this because my 22m likes puzzles and has good hand-eye coordination. He has showed an interest in letters and numbers recently. I tried to find something that was nicer but couldn't. I would preferred a sturdier puzzle with more vibrant colors and somewhat bigger letters. Also, I think the graphics chosen to complement some of the letters are odd. I don't really expect much from M&D products and this lived up to my expectation: it gets the job done.

That being said it has helped his letter learning. We often play with it in companion to an alphabet book.

"Neat idea, great puzzle, but strange picture choices" 2009-04-12
By S. Reinhart
Love the idea of a great puzzle, especially one that teaches the alphabet at the same time. Just not sure about the choices for the pictures under the letters that correspond (i.e. you pick up the letter "j" and there is a jump rope-- "i" and there is an insect to which my daughter yells "bug!")

I would still recommend this puzzle though.

 "Great Puzzle!" 2009-02-20
By A. Mott (Long Island, NY)
I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my son (17 mos at the time) and thought maybe it would be a little difficult for him at that time but we gave it a whirl. By the end of January he knew all of the letters and their respective places. We also reinforced "B is for Basket" "H is for House" etc. and he really understands the objects underneath. Now, less than 2 months after starting this, he is starting to show me letters in all the different places we find them, his Car's cup said "DOC HUDSON" and he could tell me where each letter was, along with his Elmo slippers that said Elmo. This puzzle teaches fine motor skills (the pieces aren't the easiest for little ones) and is a lot of fun to learn the letters of the alphabet, I can't speak highly enough of this puzzle.

 "Good for the price" 2009-01-07
By smith
We bought a few of these puzzles, one for our son and the others as gifts. They aren't the highest quality, so I'm not sure how well they are going to hold up. It's not solid wood like I hoped, so I think that after being chewed on a little bit it's going to fall apart. But for the price you can't go wrong. However I won't order another one unless it states that it's solid wood since they hold up the best.

Melissa & Doug Alphabet Train Floor Puzzle

Product Description

This Alphabet Train puzzle includes 28 extra thick pieces to keep your little one engaged and learning. The self-correcting pieces make learning the alphabet easy and fun. Measures 120" long.

Customer Buzz
I bought this for my son when he was about 26 months old. At the time, he could identify all of the upper case letters. With the help of this puzzle, he quickly learned all of the lower case letters. By the time he was 2 1/2, he could build this puzzle all by himself, as long as I made sure all of the pieces were turned over for him.
At first, I only gave him 3 or 4 pieces at a time so that he wasn't too overwhelmed. Once he got those pieces in, I gave him 3 or 4 more, until it was finished.
This is a great first puzzle because all of the pieces go left to right (excellent prereading skill). It's also easy to tell if the piece is upside down so it minimizes confusion.
I have bought this puzzle countless times for gifts because we love it so much. I continue to recommend it to family and friends. Soon, I will need to buy a new one for my son because after daily use, it is showing it's wear. But, it's held up very well over the last year and has been worth every penny.

Customer Buzz
A great puzzle for my 4 year old who loves trains and is learning the alphabet.

Customer Buzz
My 2 year old loves this puzzle. The puzzle is big, but she loves to see the train grow across the room. It's very durable, and she has learned both animals and her letters and can do the puzzle now by herself at 2.5.

Customer Buzz
This is a great puzzle for many reasons. First for parents this is a sturdy puzzle. We are in a puzzle phase right now and this puzzle is not showing any signs of wear. Second, the pictures are great. Some of the ABC animals are not ones that you normally find in the ABC books. Plus it is a train and with a boy, trains are always great.

Customer Buzz
This puzzle is a great beginning puzzle for a young pre-schooler. We bought this puzzle for our 3 year old. It is challenging for her as well as entertaining. I rated this puzzle 5 stars, but if 4.75 stars were an option, that would be a more accurate rating. It is not flawless - the main problem is that Melissa and Doug illustrated "X" with a fox, which obviously does not start with X. Admittedly, there aren't many animals that start with X. In fact, I can only think of xenops, and this is thanks to an ABC book my daughter had when she was younger. Further, every piece except for U is an animal - U is illustrated with an umbrella. This seems inconsistent. Unicorn would have been a better option.

Aside from these relatively minor flaws, this puzzle is fantastic. There are 28 pieces. Two pieces form the locomotive and the other 26 pieces correspond to a train car illustrated with a letter in upper and lower case and an animal (except for the aforementioned umbrella) that starts with that letter (except for the fox for x). The puzzle is 10 feet long, so you need a big space to put it together. My daughter loves how long it is. And I love that it is one long puzzle because this forces my daughter to think about the alphabet song, identify the letter that comes next, search for and find the letter she identified and then fit that letter into the puzzle. Before she got this puzzle, I *thought* she knew her letters and the alphabet. However, I realized that she didn't really think about each letter she sang in the song as corresponding to a with a letter in the written form. Similarly, while she could identify a letter as written when we showed it to her, she found it challenging to think about alphabetical order and hunt for the correct letter - she had to picture the letter in her mind in order to locate the letter. Thus, this puzzle was highly educational for her. When we first got the puzzle, each time we sat with her and sang the ABC song with her as we pointed to the letters. When we got to the last letter she had fitted into the puzzle, we would pause and ask what comes next. Once she identified that letter, she would search to it and we'd repeat our previous procedure, singing the alphabet song and identifying the next letter.

The pieces are very good quality and I can tell that they will last a long time. They fit well together but are not too loose. The peices are nice, chunky and thick. As I mentioned above, the puzzle is very long, so my daughter must sit on the floor and sift through the pieces to find the correct letter. This makes assembly of this puzzle particularly fun and interactive.

Helped my son learn the alphabet in a fun way and the quality is good.

I ordered 2 puzzles for Christmas presents on Dec 10. They decide to cancel the order on Dec 19th. Thanks. That means I need to do more shopping with less than 1 week before Christmas.

Customer Buzz
My 4 year old still likes to put this puzzle together even though he has been able to do it for awhile now. We have had it several years and it is still in excellent shape. Fun, educational and very well made.

Customer Buzz
My 2 year old loves this puzzle. It is durable enough for a toddler - it has been a month and none of the pieces has shown any signs of wear-n-tear. Putting it together with your child is quality time well spent. It took about a week for my child to assemble this all by herself - and I was very proud when I saw it the first time.

The pictures are plain, not cute, but good enough for my child to recognize what they reference. Due to the length of the puzzle (assembled in one big line), you'll need a lot of space if you want to assemble it as a train - need about 10 ft of space.

Overall, I would recommend this as the 1st puzzle for a toddler.

Customer Buzz
My [...] really likes this train puzzle. He knows his alphabet and is able to pick out which puzzle piece comes next in line and attach it. It goes straight across and is over 10 feet long. There is also a picture with each letter on the piece and this has helped him with words beginning with that letter. He will say "Q quail" or "N nut" when he is putting the piece on. The pieces are easy to attach, thick and very sturdy. The pieces comes apart with no worry of ripping the picture off. This would make a really nice gift for a 2-4 year old. The box is also very nice to keep the puzzle in.

Melissa & Doug Deluxe 10-Piece Alphabet Nesting and Stacking Blocks

Product Description

This set of ten sturdy cardboard blocks will keep your little one engaged for hours. Each colorful, bold block has beautifully illustrated letters and images on every side. Stack them high to build a soaring tower, or link them together on the ground. Nesting block measures 5.8"H x 5.8"W x 5.8"D.

Customer Buzz
My kids (ages 6,4 1/2, 4 and 2 1/2) love these blocks and go to them over and over again. They aren't very durable, though. The first day we got them, my 2 1/2 year old SAT on the largest box and tore it completely apart. I taped it up with packing tape, and it works again... but as you can imagine, I was a bit disappointed.
They do love them though, and love stacking them up on top of each other and knocking them down... and nesting them to put away.

Customer Buzz
I was looking for an educational, entertaining, inexpensive, and durable item for my 3 1/2 year-old great-nephew when I found this 10-piece Alphabet Stacking/Nesting Blocks. I don't have to tell you how hard it is these days to find an entertaining, educational, and inexpensive toy for toddlers. Upon receiving this product, I was very impressed by the fact that I had found all 3 of my requirements in this set!

Customer Buzz
I was skeptical at first, but my toddler loves these! We stack them (and then knock them over), and nest them, and I am amazed at how much she studies these - she looks for the stars, and the squares, and she tries to figure out what each character is doing (the bunny is smelling the flower, the cow is blowing out the candles, the bear is putting on his boots, the lion is going nite-nite, etc.). I think she could probably destroy these if she wanted to, and if I let her - I've had to stop her from trying to step inside the boxes a few times, but overall, these are a great toy!

Customer Buzz
My son loves stacking and playing with these blocks. However, they are not durable at all. A couple of the stickers have already come off ~ choking hazard. My son has also gnawed on all the edges and eaten the cardboard. I love the play factor of this toy but maybe it is for an older kid. My son is 1 year and still putting things in his mouth.

Customer Buzz
My two year old daughter thinks these are really fun and loves the pictures and letters on the blocks. The only problem is that they are not the most sturdy and will most likely not last a real long time, but for the price I think they were a good purchase. Very cute and kids do love to build towers!

Customer Buzz
I bought this for my 1 year old nephew and he can knock them over all day long! He loves them (although we have to watch to make sure he doesn't chew on the corners of the blocks since they are cardboard). The blocks all fit into eachother and store nicely too. :o) A great deal!

Customer Buzz
I love Melissa and Doug products, which is why I bought this w/o a second guess. I actually returned this due to the fact that it's made out of cardboard. I have a 2 year old, and a 6month old. I don't know about you.. but cardboard would not last in our house more than a week, my 2 year old would step, or fall and put a heavier toy on it, and crush it. and the 6month old will eat the edges, and I'm not sure I want her with cardboard mush in her mouth! however the WOOD version they have of these in AWESOME!

Customer Buzz
I got these as a gift for my son when he was nearly 1 year old. They are great b/c they are small when stacked, so you can take them with you. They seem plenty sturdy to me, I havent had one bust yet! I'd reccomend this for 12 months-3 years, but I'm sure older kids would enjoy them too. Its just so much fun to stack them up and knock them down!

Customer Buzz
I believe they make a wooden version of these blocks which I would have bought had I known how easily these card board ones start to break down. If your child doesn't try sitting or standing on everything then these blocks are for you. My daughter loves them and says the alphabet as she stacks them. Great just not durable.

Customer Buzz
If you have a teether, these will not survive the toddler's gnawing on them. Also, these will buckle under the weight of a toddler trying to balance on them or balance heavier toys on the boxes. For a good idea of how sturdy these are, they are comparable to heavy duty cardboard moving boxes. If you think you toddler won't be able to destroy these, this is a wonderful excellent toy. On the other hand, if your toddler is as strong as mine is, look for the wooden blocks instead, such as Hi-5 Sorting tower.
