Product Description
The Kid-Tough Portable DVD Player is the first portable DVD player that is rough, tough and easy enough for even the most rambunctious kids. Designed with special Kid-Tough features, this durable device will survive drop after drop after drop. It has a 3.2" color TFT screen, rechargeable batteries (with a two-hour life), battery charger/wall power unit, sturdy dual-rail DVD drive and a digital anti-skip buffer for the ultimate Kid-Tough viewing experience. Other great features include dual-grip handles, kid-friendly DVD door and DVD controls, CD-playback capability, handle for portability, kick stand legs for hands-free viewing, video-out jack and headphone jack. Requires four "AA" batteries, included. Measures 8.5"L x 2.25"W x 9"H.I bought this off of ebay and it was a great toy when it worked. One day (about 90 days after purchase) my son tried turning it on and the screen was dark and the dvd was not moving. I learned my lesson buying it on ebay - the warranty is no good! If you do buy this toy from a "primary" retailer then you can get your money back for 2 years which is pretty good. The only other thing was the screen is a little small. There is also no lock on the DVD compartment so littler siblings can open it too easily.
I had a lot of problems with the first one I bought. It would not play the DVD at the 3rd time I used it. It would say that the door is not shut, but it surely was. One advice : buy the product from a place that can give you a warranty and KEEP your receipt to return it!!!
I am a Grandma and Greatgrandma, I have an 8yr.old, two 4yr.olds and a 2yr.old and they love their Fisher Price Tough Kid DVD Player. They have droped it thron it and it still plays (I guess you can say it is like a Timex watch, IT TAKES A LICKEN AND KEEPS ON TICKEN) We have had no problems, just happenss!
My son received this as a Christmas present. I'm sad to say it just went KAPUT as of Saturday, 3/28/09 so it lasted approximately 90 days. After an 8 hour charge it will play for approximately 2 hrs and now...nothing. My son received an error mesage indicating something is wrong w/the dvd and nothing is wrong. It just gives you an error message and a "?" and that's it. From other reviews I read on the manufacturer website - it's not worth the effort returning and getting replacement parts. I'll purchase something more durable.
Overall this product is everything it promises to be. It is sturdy and very kid friendly. As other people have noted it is a little bit annoying that it can't be locked shut (so that kids can't open it) and that the buttons are SO accessible to the point of begging to be pushed.
The only other design flaw is that the screen is relatively small. No smaller than it appears in the picture but for such a big device a larger screen would be nice.
However if you have a little person this is a great device, perfect for the car, home, or wherever!
We got this item for our 3 year old son for Christmas and has been great so far....no real complaints other than I wish the battery lasted longer than 2 hours. It's very easy for my son to use and very kid friendly. I wish the screen was a little bigger, but it dosen't seem to bother my son at all. He dropped it once so far and it didn't affect it at all, so that was a relief. I wish that it didn't take so long to charge the battery so maybe they will improve on that in the future hopefully. I love the fact that it has two legs that pop out of the back so you can stand it up on a table....this is very handy. Overall, we have been very happy with this product.
I bought this for my son for airplane trips. Within days, we realized it would only play about a quarter of the DVDs we own. No idea why this is, since the DVDs are unscratched and clean. [...]
I bought this for my nephew for his third birthday and it broke the next day. I think this equipment is too sensitive for 3 year old's....I thought it was suppose to be ruggedized? They need to either recommend it for 5 yrs and up or do more QC.
My 19 month old son loves this dvd player. It's nice to take it with us to the dr's office, grocery store, or any place we like to keep him entertained. It really does seem to hold up well. As you can imagine my 19 month old is pretty rough on his toys. He has dropped it a few times and it hasn't seemed to do any damage. He hasn't dropped it down the stairs like the commercial shows, but it is made well enough that I think it probably could be dropped down the stairs. It only has about a 2 hour charge, but I think you could buy a car charger if needed. I haven't done that yet, but I plan to do that so we can take it with us on long car trips. I wish the dvd player wasn't so easy to open. My son figured that out right away and it has been a challenge to keep him from taking the dvd in and out. All in all we really like this though. I would also recommend buying the carrying case to carry it in. It has places to put other dvd's and comes in handy when you are traveling.
This was a Christmas present for my grandson. He loves it & so does his
parents. He thinks it's great that he is able to play a DVD by himself.
