I gave this to my 6 year old for Christmas. The directions are good and easy to follow, and once finished, the bracelets are nice. However, the process of making a friendship bracelet with the wheel is tedious and takes a long time. Once you've selected the pattern and colors, the process is not creative - you just repeat the same action over and over again. My daughter usually has a good attention span for arts and crafts, but not this one.
My niece got one of these for her Christmas present (6 years old) By the end of January she and her Mom had made up all the materials and were excited to get another two wheels for her 7th birthday on Jan 29th. Now all the girls can make friendship bracelets at the same time... great product, replenish with ordinary embroidery thread! Excellent craft idea for neatness and a space saver! Plus creates gift giving opportunities for all ages!
We have had this Friendship Wheel kit for over a year and my 3 daughters are still interested in making bracelets with it. We have used it so much that we've bought additional floss to make more bracelets. This is time consuming and has worked better for my older 2 who are 10 and 9. It does take sticking with it to get a bracelet made. They've enjoyed it and I definitely think it's a good purchase when over a year later they're still using it.
We loved this toy so much, that we bought 8 more for my daughter to give as gifts. We originally purchased this when she was about 8. She is now almost 11. She forgets about it for several months at a time, but then finds it again and gets to work. I expect to be using this for years to come. When our dog chewed one of the wheels, she cried and cried and we are now replacing it.
Pros: Great concept. Simple (once you get the hang of it) , cool bracelet once you finish. Fast for older ages (10+) can be a little slow for younger kids. Great hard plastic box for storage. The wheels themselves are soft foam. They grip the strings well. More floss/string can be purchased very inexpensively from any fabric or craft store. Small/portable: easy to carry in a purse for on the go entertainment.
Cons: Note, what you get did NOT take much money to MAKE - the wheels are just cheap soft foam - but the development/concept is very unique. I have some concern that when we give it as a gift, it doesn't look like a $15 gift.
I wish they sold additional designs. We would certainly purchase them.

I purchased this for my 8 yr old. I love it so much that she hasn't had a chance to use it yet because I can't put it down. Unlike some other reviewers, I didn't think that the instructions were hard to understand. The wheels make 4 different bracelet patterns but the procedure is the same for all 4 patterns. All that differs is where you put the colors on the wheel to start. The bracelets are made by repeating just a couple of simple steps over and over again. The hardest part is that you move two strings, turn the wheel, move two strings, etc and if you look away from the wheel and then look back it can be hard to tell where you left off. My daughter may have trouble with it because it does take some concentration and you have to remember to mark where you left off before you take a break. The wheels are made of durable foam so they are very lightweight. I would recommend this for ages 8 and above.
I got this for my 9 year old for her birthday. She's really enjoying it and wants to make bracelets for all her friends. I've also made one and it is hard to put down. Once you get the basic instructions down, it's really easy. Something you can do while watching TV.
Interesting thing for my daughter but the instructions are not good at all. She found some on the Web and learned how to work with the square thing, but still can't do anything with the wheel.

The bracelet made out of the friendship wheel is round and very professional looking. It has four patterns, one with little hearts, one with little diamonds, one with little flowers and one with stripes. I have made the one with little flowers and it is extremely pretty.
The bracelets are very easy to make, and I made the bracelets while watching TV, keeps my hands busy. But keep in mind that I am a grown-up.
Alex Friend 2 Friend is an expansion on the friendship bracelets...the wheels make patterns as the floss directions are followed. Beautiful designs and rounded bracelets versus the flat bracelets are produced. Kids from ages 8-88 love this product.
