Product Description
How do you get your team to say diamond, if you can't say baseball, ring, carats, jewel or engagement' You might say, "These are a girl's best friend. Hope is a huge one. The World Series is played here. Some are found in the rough." Get your team to say the secret word. Give suggestive sentences, funny phrases or even one word hints as clues. But don't use any of the words on the card. That's taboo! Each time your team shouts out the secret word, you get a point. But be careful! Your opponents will be "looking over your shoulder" - making sure you don't say any of the taboo words. If you do and they catch you, they sound the buzzer and score the point! It's unspeakable fun. Take our word for it! For 4 or more players. Game includes: 504 cards, card holder, buzzer, timer, score pad, and instructions. Requires 2 "AA" alkaline batteries (not included).
This Taboo game came with a corroded battery connections making the timer unable to work, very battered box, wrinkled score sheets. I kept it because I needed it for a party the next day, but this game should not have been sold at that price. Shameful. Barbara
Taboo is a great game for parties or any group of about four or larger. Make sure you watch the timer, because it's easy to get caught up in the word-guessing action! My only complaint would be that I got the 2000 version (they update them every few years I believe), and it's nice to have the most current one possible (including current political leaders and celebrities).
I'm 30 years old, and my friends and I have been playing Taboo quite often, and we always have a good time. It's EASY to understand how to play, but it can be difficult to play if you have idiots for teammates, or if you're a horrible communicator.
It's funny how everyone immediately gets into it, because everyone is yelling all types of words to figure out the word on the card.
Overall, it's a pretty good time!
I ordered "Taboo" for my family for a Christmas present and we have enjoyed it thoroughly!
Taboo is hilariously fun. It really depends on who you play it with, as the responses to somebody's description can be outrageous. Grab a few drinks with some friends and have a blast.
Our family do not do well with board games and party games. People cheat, we fight, and generally the night ends badly. But Taboo is non stop fun that is near impossible to cheat.
It's simply blurting out clues to a word without mentioning a blacklist of words. You give clues to your team while the opposite team checks the card for the blacklisted words. Tally points won and subtract errors for the final score.
We decided to buy the game for the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays, and had a great time. Heavy dinners and a few drinks make this by far the best game you can play with just the right amount of stimulation and brain work.
The best thing about this game is that it sets the par even, and almost anyone can play.
My only gripe about the game is the price and the limited available cards. But, Its enough fun that I'll fork out the money.
A great social party game. Opens up ways brains think a like! Sometimes the game gets on a roll as your minds sync up and you just know exactly what the person is saying without much hints and other times it just get challenging as you have no clue what is going on and have no way to articulate without the tabooed words. Great semantic game where you're trying to say words without literally saying them!
My husband and I played this game with a group of friends and it was a great way to have fun and to excercise verbal skills. We recommend it for adults as well as older children.
The basic idea is to get your team to say a certain word, but without saying certain strategic other words in your clues. For example, you might have to get your teammates to say "kangaroo" without using the words "pouch," "Australia," or "Captain." Be careful, you can't say any part or form of any of the words, such as "AustraliAN," and you can't make hand gestures, either.
Taboo was a classic when it first hit the party scene, right up there with Pictionary. It is a riot! And for years I would have said the best "verbal-charades" type game out there. Now I have to recommend Electronic Catchphrase as an alternative. It's a little different, with no "taboo" words, but otherwise very similar, and the advantage is that it is all contained in a little electronic disc that gives words/phrases and keeps score for you. Electronic Guesstures is another self-contained game that will elicit great fun and laughter from you and your friends. If you don't really like those little electronic gadgets, I'd say Taboo is still the way to go.
We have been playing Taboo for years, great for preteen on up. We take it on family vacations. Wait till you see how much fun your friends have when they get to buzz you for saying the Taboo word!! This is kind of a "word" version of charades. Easy to learn fun for hours.
