Product Description
A return of a classic. Mattel brings back the classic game from 1996 in which the original battling robots try to knock each other's blocks off! Red rocker and Blue Bomber battle it out in the arena, with realistic sounds and jaw-jolting action. When a robot lands that blockbuster punch to his opponent's jaw, the victorious robot's head pops up with that rock 'Em Sock 'Em gotcha sound. Adult assembly required. Stadium measures 14.5L x 10W x 5.5H.We had this game as kids so was excited to still find the Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots for my daughter. Well when we received it the Robots were much smaller than the original and they barely touch each other when they are punching. The kids tried to play it a few times but were disappointed. After 2 years I have had enough. It is going in a rummage sale.
I don't remember as a child it being that difficult to knock the other guy's block off. Sometimes I have to hold the other with my hand and repeatedly punch at the chin to get the 'block' up. Frustrating . . .but fun!
BOY! Talk about bringing back memories! My husband and I are both over 50 and we still love this game. While it is not educational in the least , it is loads of fun. Almost any age can play. So if you have kids ( or even if you don't ) I think you should try this game, I don't think you will be disappointed.
I've never played or seen the original but had heard how fun it was so I bought this new version for my 9 year old. We have had it now for 6 months and I am fed up with it to the point that it is being thrown out today. I comes apart very easily and I find pieces of it scattered all around the house. The rope never stays in place, robots come off easily from their stands, it is not sturdy. Sons complain that they have to bang the buttons with their fists and even then the heads sometimes don't pop up. Nobody wants to play it anymore and even their friends ask to play somethings else. I'm sick of tripping over the pieces. I wish I would have known about Amazon's review system before I purchased this. I can understand all of the negative comments and now, before I make a purchase, I check to see if it is carried by Amazon and what others are saying about it.
I don't feel this is an educational toy at all, but my son enjoys it a lot.
This is a toy I can remember as a child. There's nothing to it. What I love is No batteries!
I got this for my brother-in-law who is currently serving in Iraq. Yes, he is over the age limit on the box, but he said that he and his other troops get bored and they wanted something that reminded them of their childhood. He hasn't gotten it yet, but I am sure we will hear from him when he does.
I've never played with the original set, so I have no basis for comparison, but the 2 sets I have bought (the first as a gift for someone else) are utter trash. The robots are difficult to manipulate, and even if you have one person hold one robot down and the other punch it repeatedly it still takes an absurdly long amount of time for the head to pop up. No play value at all.
I am only 11, so I've obviously never played the original version, but this is GREAT. I expected it to be almost puny, but it's big enough (though the original version was probably better because it's bigger and it made a whiz sound when their block gets knocked off). The only problem is that the blue bombers block gets knocked off a bit easier than the red rocker, but it's not a big deal. Overall it's an absolutely great game (but the original was probably twice as good!!).
